Bummer: Beach Boy Biopic "The Drummer" Nixed

THR reports that Randall Miller's indie biopic "The Drummer" has officially been scrapped and it's all  I, Frankenstein's fault.

The script written by Jody Savin focused on the last six years of The Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson's (Aaron Eckhart) life, prior to his death in 1983.

Production on the biopic was originally slated to begin in June 2012. Then star Eckhart had to pull out at the last minute citing exhaustion from filming on "I, Frankenstein", despite having spent six months learning to sing and play the piano and drums. Indefinitely delayed following Eckhart's The project seems lifeless.

Music supervisor Brad Rosenberger says: "It was a huge blow for us when Eckhart pulled out. There are no plans to make this Dennis Wilson movie now, but I don’t think it would be accurate to say we don’t want a movie to be made."

The trustee for Wilson’s estate suggests that the project is off for good. Rep Shelley Surpin says: "The Dennis Wilson Trust can confirm that there is no plan for proceeding with the Drummer project."

Though co-producers on the project, kids Jennifer Wilson and her half-brother Carl.were said to be uneasy about the screenplay which contributed to the project’s delay. Though the current script doesn't look at Wilson's alcohol and drug addiction, it does show how his hard living cost him his home, boat and a few marriages.
