Neill Blomkamp's "Alien" Film Is A Go!!

It's official. "District 9" and "Elysium" helmer Neill Blomkamp is set to chart a new installment of the Alien franchise.

Blomkamp lit up the Internet last month when he posted concept art designs for a direct follow-up to 1986's "Aliens". At the time he said the designs were unofficial, but he'd be willing to take on the project.

Last week in an interview promoting next month's Chappie Blomkamp was asked by Uproxx about the artwork and the reaction to it. He went on to say that Fox was actually interested in doing the movie, but he wasn't sure he wanted to tackle a major studio movie.

Then a few hours ago he posted the following image via Instagram:

Shortly after that the studio confirmed the news to Variety and indicated that this will be a sequel to the first 2 pics--ignoring Alien³ and Alien: Resurrection. It's also separate from the currently in development "Prometheus 2".

Deadline adds that Ridley Scott will produce the film which will be set set after the events of "Prometheus 2".

It's uncertain where the film will go or if Sigourney Weaver's Ellen Ripley will return.
