Spider-Man co-creator Stan Lee introduced a new teaser for Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man 2 that tied into last night's annual new year celebration in Times Square.
Andrew Garfield will return as Peter Parker and Emma Stone is gonna reprise her role as Gwen Stacy. Do these set pics confirm that the classic story The Night Gwen Stacy Died is part of the film? For the record Stone endorsed the idea last August when The Amazing Spider-Man was still in theaters...
Dane DeHaan ("Chronicle") has won the role of Harry Osborn Osborn of course is Peter Parker's best friend and eventual enemy who was played by James Franco previously. Jamie Foxx will be playing bad guy Electro. Paul Giamatti plays the villain, the Rhino. Sally Field is back as Aunt May. Chris Cooper has been cast as Norman Osborn--who eventually becomes Spidey's number one foe--The Green Goblin--The character was played previously by Willem Dafoe Felicity Jones (Like Crazy), plays Norman's girlfriend in the film. Former Office star B.J. Novak has an unspecified role in the film. While there was speculation that actress Sarah Gadon ("Cosmopolis," "A Dangerous Method") was going to be the new Mary Jane Watson, given the fact that Shailene Woodley's performance as the character had been cut. As it turns out though Gadon DOES appear in "Amazing 2" after all as an entirely different character. She is actually playing an android cop.
Here's the Sony Pictures' official synopsis:
"We've always known that Spider-Man's most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead. It's great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there's no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp."
Meantime Foxx recently spoke with Empire about his role as Electro in the Spidey sequel and revealed that numerous versions of his look were tried, including some that "involved a lot more blue."
The final look that they deiced upon not only worked best, but it also cut down significantly on the time that Foxx had to sit in the make-up chair- from four hours to 90 minutes.
Foxx also says that he deliberately kept the character serious, avoiding any lines that made Electro seem funny:
"I didn't want Electro to be funny at all. There were lines I thought he shouldn't say...this is a man who's angry. He's mad at the gods. He's just using Spider-Man and these people as an excuse to act out and be evil. The voice is from me watching Clint Eastwood and Alec Baldwin. The great whisperers."
He also responded to the fan backlash over his casting, in the process blasting those who made snap judgements:
"It used to be people would wait until they saw the film to decide their opinion. Now it's, Ben Affleck is Batman?! How [frick]ing dare you!' What's that all about? These blogs don't like anything. Christian Bale. Heath Ledger. They weren't happy - until they saw them. So you have to not give too much to it."
Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner wrote the script based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt.
Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach will produce.
The new film is now in post-production to meet its May 2nd 2014 release date.
Both The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and The Amazing Spider-Man 4 already have release dates--The writers of Amazing 2 are also set to return for the 3rd film
The series will grow from there to include other members of the extended Spidey family
