Lee Falk's comic book creation The Phantom is headed back to the big screen for a reboot...
Sherlock Symington Productions has secured rights to "The Phantom: Legacy", a new feature film involving the jungle-based masked hero who is dressed in skin-tight purple spandex reports the The Associated Press.
The character appeared in the self titled flick The Phantom, from Simon Wincer in 1996 and with Billy Zane as the masked hero.
Not a sequel to that, rather a reboot of the franchise the $87 million project, with a screenplay by Tim Boyle, will focus on "the Father/Son relationship, and what it means to be The Phantom," Boyle said in a statement.
"The film will be set in the present day and will deal with the concept of destiny."
Bruce Sherlock, who served as executive producer of the first movie, will return as producer on this film.
Shooting will take place entirely in Australia with production set to begin within six to nine months. Several "top talent" actors are in talks to take on the lead role.
The '96 flick was horrendous--Interesting is its modern day setting--as opposed to its created milieu of the 30's which was used in the first feature...
Will it work?
Garth Franklin of Dark Horizons chatted with Boyle and got a few mote details...
