Director Gore Verbinski is set to helm a film about the online fantasy role-playing world and its negatives reports Variety.
Alexandra Alter's 2007 Wall Street Journal article will be used as the basis for the film.
The story focuses on a married man who spends as many as twenty hours a day on a computer, existing through an avatar who is a musclebound entrepreneur. In reality, he is a diabetic, chain-smoking 53-year-old.
Steven Knight will script the feature Verbinski will also co-produce.
Rather ironic that Verbinski is doing this cautionary tale about gaming since he's also adapting vid game Bioshock for 2010.
