Planet Plans

CHUD chatted with Scott Frank about the Fox's Planet of the Apes plans--setting the record straight on what shape the film will take

He says that the project, currently titled "Caesar" and which he is rewriting, is NOT a remake of "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes".

The film "will not feature talking monkeys, and it will not end with chimpanzees running wild in the streets, taking over the world."

While that news may trouble some Frank assures us that the feature is not entirely separated from the world of "Apes" and the hard science fiction thriller is being setup as the 'opening chapter in a saga' about events between now and an ape-ruled world.

Frank says that the science that creates a hyper-intelligent chimpanzee is based on current real world research taken a step too far, and the plan is for the audience to come to really feel for this ape...

Even as a devotee of the '68 classic I'm strangely intrigued to see where this one goes..Given what Frank said the film might work as it doesn't seem to trample on the original.
