RIP Peter Yates (1928-2011)

British director Peter Yates has passed away at the age of 82 yesterday after an illness.


Yates was nominated both as a producer and a director for the 1979 movie "Breaking Away" and the 1983 movie The Dresser as well as the sci-fi pic and Krull.

But he is perhaps best known though for helming the 1968 movie "Bullitt," starring Steve McQueen--which features a classic movie car chase through the steep and winding streets of San Francisco, it's considered one of the best ever filmed.

Yates also directed Cliff Richard. the British pop singer, in the cult classic Summer Holiday 

Prior to that, he had worked with future James Bond actor Roger Moore in the TV series The Saint.

Yates' most recent project was the 2004 made-for-tv movie version of "A Separate Peace," which was also actor Hume Cronyn's last film before he passed away in 2003.
