Role For The Ages

Catherine Zeta-Jones will play a new role that has been created especially for the film version of Broadway musical "Rock Of Ages" says Deadline.

Zeta-Jones will play the wife of the mayor of Los Angeles, a conservative character out to do away with rock and roll - essentially making her the villain of the piece.

Director Adam Shankman says "She's the moral majority person, kind of like if Tipper Gore and Anita Bryant had a love child in that era."

He tells EW "I think she's seeing this as a wonderful homecoming for her. It (movie musical) puts her in an incredible comfort zone. The truth of the matter is, I'm working with a lot of the same people that she worked with on Chicago, so she's going to be returning to a real family situation."

Zeta-Jones recently revealed her personal battles with a Bipolar disorder

"There's a group of people that are there literally just to kind of be with her and support her. And, having rehearsed with her, she's so happy and at home in the rehearsal room, and when you put that quarter in her and turn her on to sing and dance, it's just magic "

There are two key roles - a journalist and the mayor that have yet to be cast

Shankman has been reworking the Rock of Ages script with Justin Theroux-from show creator Chris D'Arienzo's  first draft
