Swaping MLK For MaGee?

Universal Pictures has passed on the Martin Luther King Jr. film Memphis  to be directed by Paul Greengrass for "scheduling reasons",

Now Deadline reports that the director has now shelved it for at least a year and is already moving on to helm something else--a film adaptation of The Deep Blue Good-by novel by John D. MacDonald. The book is the first in a series of 21 adventures centered around Travis McGee

McGee is a self-described beach bum who lives aboard 52-foot houseboat the Busted Flush and alleviates his cash-flow problems by serving as a "salvage consultant." He recovers property for clients, taking a hefty percentage and getting into trouble as well. The first tale sees our hero looking for riches supposedly buried by a World War II soldier

Dana Stevens and Kario Salem wrote the script for the film Actor Leo DiCaprio has been attched to play Travis McGee in the long getating feature. DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Amy Robinson and Peter Chernin will produce. For a time Oliver Stone had been seriously considering calling action before he signed on to direct Savages.

As for DiCaprio he is currenlty filming Clint Eastwood's J. Edgar and is set to move on to star in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby--therefore it's gonna be tough to get Leo to star right away in Travis
