Efron's Gunfight Gets Director

It's been quite a while since we've heard anything about Die in a Gunfight--now it's reported by Deadline that photographer, music video and commercial director Anthony Mandler will do the honors.

Zac Efron stars as a fight-prone and death-obsessed young society man who pursues a romance with the daughter of his father's enemy.

The script was written by recent NYU graduates Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari; And is said to be a “Tarantino-esque blend of Gossip Girl, True Romance, and Romeo and Juliet"  It also is on the The 2010 Black List of best unproduced screenplays.

Sure Zac wants a serious career and has Me and Orson Welles and Charlie St. Cloud on his resume but can he do gritty? Maybe the new beard will help? I digress...

Mark Gordon and Jennifer Todd will produce the film. As for Mandler he is also attached to direct the vampire epic Vlad

Gunfight will hit theaters in 2012
