District 9 and The A-Team star Sharlto Copley is set to play the role of the villain in the remake of Chan-wook Park's 2003 cult classic "Old Boy," and recently spoke with MTV News about the film.
The older film centered on a man kidnapped and held for 15 years in solitary confinement without explanation. He is eventually released and sets out on a path of revenge.
Josh Brolin has been cast in the lead. Elizabeth Olsen will play the part of the caseworker Marie who helps investigate the past of Brolin's character.
Mark Protosevich wrote the adapted screenplay from which Spike Lee is calling action.
Copley says the filmmakers are keeping the dark and violent tone of both the original late 90's manga and the Korean film.
"They've been very true to the spirit of it. It's dark, it's gritty. They're not sort of softening it, which to me was important. And I'm very excited about that movie. I'm very excited about working with Spike and with Josh. I think it's going to be a film that is really worth redoing and make that idea that is such an unbelievable story accessible to maybe more people than it was originally."
Doug Davison and Roy Lee will produce.
The pic was due to already be in production but was pushed back to late summer/early fall to accomodate Brolin's press commitments for "Men In Black 3"
