Hirsch Up For Berg's "Lone Survivor"

Emile Hirsch is in early talks to play the final lead role in Peter Berg's "Lone Survivor" says Variety.

Based on the non-fiction book by Marcus Luttrell , which recounts a mission his Seal team undertook to kill a terrorist leader, although they were ambushed in the Hindu Kush mountains of Afganistan and struggled to stay alive--Lutrell was the only one to come out alive

Berg has wanted to direct the film for years, even placing himself among a Navy SEAL Team in Iraq for a month and writing the screenplay based on Lutrell's account. Universal Pictures promised him a deal where he could make this film, as long as he made Battleship--also starring Kitsch--That and the fact Osama Bin Laden, was killed by U.S. Forces in Pakistan during a firefight last year put the pic on the front burner.

Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch and Ben Foster are already set. Wahlberg will play Luttrell.

Berg, Wahlberg, Sarah Aubrey, Akiva Goldsman, Barry Spikings, Randall Emmett and George Furla will produce.

As for the tone its "unapologetically patriotic" and "a bit like Black Hawk Down" with just four guys.

Production is due to get underway this fall.

Hirsch and Kitch share the screen in Savages
