MoNique Returns In "Blackbird"

MoNique and Isaiah Washington will star in the film adaptation of author Larry Duplechan's coming of age novel called "Blackbird" says Deadline.

The story follows a star singer (played by Julian Walker)  in a religiously conservative, small Mississippi town's church choir. The kid struggles with the realization he is gay, and with his mother blaming him for his younger sister going missing.

The pair play the parents of the lead character.

Patrik-Ian Polk called action.

The film just shot in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

The project is MoNique's first film since she took home an Oscar for her performance in "Precious," in '09
