Tom Cruise has been offered the lead role in the action thriller "South China Sea," says Deadline.
The
present day story-- described as "Fast and Furious set on water"-- follows a legendary American pirate who was
imprisoned in Hong Kong. A female police lieutenant offers him his
freedom in exchange for helping her take down a formidable pirate gang
plaguing shipping lanes across the South China Sea. If he does the assignment, he might also have a chance to save his estranged son who is at the center of all this.
The Swedish directing duo of
Måns Mårlind and Björn Stein ("Underworld: Awakening," "The Bridge will call action on the project using a script by Kerry Williamson and Michael Stokes.
Andrew Gunn is producing the pic that has put on the fast track.
