Renny Harlin is set to direct an untitled drama about the events of the 2008 South Ossetia war reports Variety.
The five-day war began when Georgian forces attacked the border territory in South Ossetia. Russia recognized the territory's independence and subsequently routed Georgian forces.
Tensions have remained high ever since.
The film involves an American journalist and his cameraman who get caught in the crossfire in Georgia and then have to deal with their obligation to be impartial journalists.
Do impartial journalists even exist any more?
Further plot specifics are being kept top secret for security reasons. Harlin will shoot the film in areas near the conflict with shooting slated to begin mid-September.
Wow! Harlin's not known for taking on serious subjects--Is this pic his Black Hawk Down
