"Tyler Perry's I Can Do Bad All By Myself" dominated an otherwise mild weekend of the box office with $24 million at 2,255 playdates, leaving a trio of openers far behind.
Lionsgate's launch of "I Can Do Bad" was Perry's third-highest opening ever, trailing only "Madea Goes to Jail" with $41 million and "Madea's Family Reunion" with $30 million.
"I Can Do Bad," starring Taraji P. Henson, Gladys Knight, Mary J. Blige and Perry as Madea, took in $8.6 million on Friday, $9.9 million on Saturday and a projected $5.5 million on Sunday. The audience was 80% African-American and 75% over 25 years old.
Focus Feature's animated sci-fier "9" led the rest of the pack with $10.9 million at 1,661 to lift its five day cume to $15.2 million.
The Weinstein Co.'s fourth frame of "Inglourious Basterds" followed in third with $6.5 million at 3,215 -- off 44% -- to lift it domestic cume to $104.3 million. The Quentin Tarantino actioner's become the 20th title of the year to cross the $100 million mark.
Fox's soph sesh of Sandra Bullock comedy "All About Steve" came in fourth with $5.8 million at 2,265, edging the third frame of Warner Bros./New Line's "The Final Destination"with $5.5 million at 2,732, declining 56% to push its cume to $58.3 million.
Summit's launch of horror remake "Sorority Row" scared up little interest with a disappointing $5.3 million at 2,605.
Warner's opening launch of Antarctic murder mystery "Whiteout" generated little heat with $5.1 million at 2,745.
In the specialty arena, Roadside Attraction's expansion of documentary "The September Issue" grossed $729,000 at 111 for a $6,568 average and a $1.3 million cume.
