Date Set for 3D Rerelease of “Titanic”

James Cameron’s 1997 classic Titanic sets sail at theaters across the globe once again on April 6, 2012. History buffs will note that this theatrical run coincides with the centennial of the ship setting sail. 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and Lightstorm are collaborating for the rerelease. Cameron, who helmed, produced, and directed the Best Picture-winning epic, will oversee the conversion to 3D.

As for why he’s releasing the features again, here’s what Cameron had to tell The Hollywood Reporter:

"There's a whole generation that's never seen Titanic as it was meant to be seen, on the big screen. And this will be Titanic as you've never seen it before, digitally remastered at 4K and painstakingly converted to 3D. With the emotional power intact and the images more powerful than ever, this will be an epic experience for fans and newcomers alike."
