Showbiz 411 reports Robert De Niro and Martin Scorsese may reteam for a another film called The Comedian, which is about an insult comic who's described as "sort of like Don Rickles meets Joan Rivers."--it's "a serious role with Oscar potential"
Fight Club producer Art Linson wrote the script and the film is "all set up and financed. ... And the next step is to convince Martin Scorsese to direct."
Scorsese and DeNiro have explored similar ground in 1982's The King of Comedy--written by Paul D. Zimmerman, that under-appreciated film keyed into America's ever growing obsession with fame, (that has only gotten worse since its release) DeNiro nails it as a mentally disturbed wannabe comedian named Rupert Pupkin who kidnaps late-night talk show host Jerry Lewis in exchange for one night on his show.
Marty and Bobby? I'm there....If you have never seen King Of Comedy--rent it!
