Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: Part 1/The Hobbit: Part 2 have official titles and release dates according to a Press Release via THR
The first film will be called "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" and will bow on December 14th 2012.
The second will be "The Hobbit: There and Back Again" and reaches cinemas on December 13th 2013.
Both films are set in Middle Earth sixty years before events depicted in The Lord of the Rings films
Martin Freeman Stephen Fry, Ryan Gage Conan Stevens Cate Blanchett, Hugo Weaving Dean O'Gorman, Elijah Wood, Ian Holm, David Tennant, Lee Pace Bret McKenzie Orlando Bloom Ian McKellen, and Christopher Lee star in the Hobbit 2-fer. While Benedict Cumberbatch is said to have a role as well. Jackson nor the studio has confirmed that casting. His role is unspecified.
Both parts are being shot consecutively in digital 3-D using the latest camera and stereo technology with filming taking place at Stone Street Studios, Wellington, and on location around New Zealand.
Jackson has started answering fan questions too, among his answers confirming that both the White Council and Dol Guldur will be part of the movies.
