The story focuses on the folk music scene in Greenwich Village in the 1960s and its title character (Oscar Isaac).
Timberlake would play Jim, a folk musician married to Jean (Carey Mulligan).
The Coens wrote the script, will direct as well as produce the pic with Scott Rudin.
Shooting will start early next year in New York.
