Greengrass Leaves "The Trial Of The Chicago 7"

THR reports that "The Bourne Ultimatum" and "United 93" director Paul Greengrass has vacated the center seat of the long discussed historical drama "The Trial Of The Chicago 7".

The story follows the Chicago Seven who were charged with conspiracy and inciting to riot at the 1968 Democratic National Convention. The week-long street rioting made worldwide headlines.

Greengrass and DreamWorks reached an impasse over the film’s budget.

DreamWorks wanted to make the movie for no more than $30 million, according to insiders, while Greengrass asked for closer to $40 million.

Steven Spielberg was originally attached to direct it several years ago, but nothing has really moved on it since 2008. At the time, Sacha Baron Cohen, Will Smith, Kevin Spacey and Philip Seymour Hoffman were attached to star.

Aaron Sorkin started working on the script for Spielberg in 2007, before The Social Network, but a string of delays including the industry Writers strike caused Spielberg to drop the project which was then shelved
