Sarsgaard And Schreiber Take A "Pawn Sacrifice"

Peter Sarsgaard and Liev Schreiber are in talks to star in the long in the works Bobby Fischer biopic "Pawn Sacrifice" says THR.

Ed Zwick directs the Cold War-set film that stars Tobey Maguire as Fischer, the youngest grand master in the history of chess and a young man prone to unpredictable outbursts. In 1972, he became the first American to reach the finals and engaged in a showdown against the seemingly invincible Soviet master Boris Spassky (Schreiber).

Sargaard will play a priest who became a close confidant of Fischer.

Stephen Knight wrote the script.

Maguire, Zwick and Gail Katz are producing the film.

Production begins in Montreal next month.
