Child's Play

According to Variety, The Weinstein Company has hired Transformers 2 co-writer Ehren Kruger to adapt Stephen King's famous short storyChildren of the Corn.” into another film So designed as a do-over not a remake.

Kruger will be using the book as his basis rather than the original pic as the basis for his script.

The 1984 film, directed by Fritz Kiersch, took the book's story of a boy preacher who persuades the children in a small Nebraska town to kill all of the adults--and turned it into a modest cult hit among the horror genre faithful

"We felt the [original] film was a missed opportunity," said Bob WeinsteinIf you read the short story, it's got such a strong feeling to it and there's this religious overtone to it as well. Ehren wants to hit it hard… We are bringing something new to the story."

I would agree that the 1st COTC wasn't the best King film adaptation--Ehren has a pretty spotty record of screenplay success--Right now this one's a toss up...
