Fox is moving ahead with a reboot of the '05 action pic Mr. and Mrs. Smith says NY Mag. In the original flick power couple Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were a married couple who were also both assassins from rival agencies who simultaneously receive orders to kill each other.
Akiva Goldsman will produce the new incarnation that changes the name-now entitled "Mr. and Mrs. Jones", is an origin story - following a pair of twenty-something spies set up as a fake married couple when they graduate agency training.
Suits went for the reboot rather than a sequel route due to the cost and sequel/spin-off potential of 'Jones'.
At one point a few years ago, a TV series based on the Pitt/Jolie pic was being prepped but never materialized.
Pitt and Jolie obviously had gobs of screen chemistry together finding that again could prove tough and ultimately pointless.
