Former “Deadwood”star the awesome Ian McShane is in talks to play the villainous Captain Blackbeard in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides says both The Hollywood Reporter and Variety .
Born Edward Teach, the notorious English pirate Blackbeard captained the Queen Anne's Revenge and operated around the West Indies in the early 1700's.
Unlike some of his more bloodthirsty brethren, Teach was a smart businessman who used his fearsome image and reputation rather than force to get what he desired.
Johnny Depp is back as Captain Jack Sparrow in a story that revolves around the Fountain of Youth.
Penelope Cruz also stars as Sparrow's "equal and foil".
Terry Rossio and Ted Elliott penned the script from the book by Tim Powers
The addition of McShane could just nullify the loss of both Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley to the film series
