BAFTA's; Oscar Odds

With less than 2 weeks to go before Awards Season culminates on March 7th with the handing out of the Oscars

Our friends across the pond at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts named their favorite films of '09

The Hurt Locker directed by Kathryn Bigelow won six of the night's biggest awards.

Best Picture: "The Hurt Locker"

Best British Film: "Fish Tank"

Best Foreign Language Film: "Un Prophete"

Best Animated Film: "Up"

Best Actor: Colin Firth ("A Serious Man")

Best Actress: Carey Mulligan ("An Education")

Best Supporting Actor: Christoph Waltz ("Inglorious Basterds)"

Best Supporting Actress: Mo’nique ("Precious")

Best Director: Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker"

Rising Star Award: Kristen Stewart

Outstanding British Debut: Duncan Jones ("Moon")

Best Original Screenplay: Mark Boal ("The Hurt Locker") Best Adapted Screenplay: Jason Reitman & Sheldon Turner ("Up in the Air")

The entire BAFTA Winners List...

Meantime David Hanks (via Awards Daily) points out that in the past five decades, all seven films which have won the Directors Guild Award, an American Cinema Editors 'Eddie' award and a Writers Guild nod have all gone on to win Best Picture at the Oscars.

"The Hurt Locker" has now won all three and despite the 10 pic field for Best Picture at the Oscars, Locker is clearly the front runner.
