Prom Date And Deals

The suits at Disney are making plans for a new franchise to hopefully match their hugely successful High School Musical film series says Variety.

"Prom" is envisioned as a comedy revolving around nine teenagers (played by unknowns) prepping for the big dance. This will not be a musical, rather one that matches the tone of say John Hughes' flicks such as "Sixteen Candles" and "The Breakfast Club".

Katie Wech (The Dead Zone) will write the script and Joe Nussbaum (Sydney White, Sleepover) will direct. Once the studio has a draft of said script, a budget will be determined and decide which way to go

Ted Griffin and Justin Springer will produce.the pic.

Ugh!

Meantime Disney's former BMOC (Big Man On Campus) and HSM stud Zac Efron has signed a two-year deal with Warner Bros says Variety--which puts the star's manager as executive producer on all his projects with the studio.

Iron Man actor Robert Downey Jr. and his wife, producer Susan Downey have a first-look production deal with WB says Variety
