It's been 15 years since singer Whitney Houston was seen on the big screen in 1996's "The Preacher's Wife", now Houston is gonna next be seen in a remake of "Sparkle" says The Hollywood Reporter.
Loosely based on the music group The Supremes, Sparkle follows three sisters that form a successful singing group and then must deal with the fallout of fame and drugs.
Fellow singer Jordin Sparks will play the title character who is the most talented member of this powerful girl group while Houston is playing her indifferent mother.
Mike Epps is keyed to play a stand-up comedian who gets one of the three sisters hooked on drugs.
Salim Akil will direct from a script he wrote with his wife, Mara Brock Akil.
Houston will executive produce with shooting likely to kick off sometime in 2013.
