Durand & Maillet Go Bad In The Mortal Instruments

Kevin Durand and Robert Maillet joined the big screen adaptation of Cassandra Clare's supernatural novel series The Mortal Instruments says Variety.

Based on the first book "City of Bones" and set in contemporary New York City, the story follows a seemingly ordinary teenager Fray (Lily Collins) who discovers she is the descendant of a line of Shadowhunters a secret cadre of young half-angel warriors locked in an ancient battle to protect our world from demons. She soon join forces with a group of Shadowhunters, who introduce her to a dangerous alternate New York called Downworld, filled with demons, warlocks, vampires, werewolves and other deadly creatures.

Durand and Maillet will play Pangborn and Blackwell two henchman of the main villain, Valentine.

Jamie Campbell Bower has been cast as Jace Wayland, one of the best Shadowhunters.--The Jace role had Alex Pettyfer in talks for it at one point. Jemima West plays Isabelle Lightwood

Scott Charles Stewart was set to helm but vacated after the collapse instead choosing to start work on a TV series based on his film Legion. Now director Harald Zwart (The Karate Kid remake) has taken over.

Jessica Postigo and I. Marlene King wrote the adapted script. Robert Kulzer, Michael Lynne and Robert Shaye are producing.

Production on Mortal Instruments is set to begin on August 15th in Toronto--and is set for release on August 23rd, 2013.
