The story follows Grace Winter, a newlywed and widow standing trial for murder in 1914. She recounts how she survived the sinking of the transatlantic ship Empress with the help of her new husband, only to end up in an overcrowded lifeboat where survivors talk about getting rid of certain people.
William Broyles Jr. ("Apollo 13") is writing the adapted script.
Hathaway, Tim Bevan, Eric Fellner, Liza Chasin, Suzan Bymel and Ben Forkner will produce.
