Gravitational Pull

Natalie Portman has been offered the lead role in Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi epic Gravity says Risky Biz Blog.

Set during an orbital repair mission, the story follows a female astronaut (Portman) who must survive a solitary ordeal after an exploded satellite wipes out the rest of the crew.

Robert Downey Jr also stars

Cuaron will direct and co-wrote the script with his son Jonás

The lead role in the $80 million drama has been a highly sought after one as it's a part that has a lot of screen time--similar to "Cast Away" with Tom Hanks.

Angelina Jolie has been linked but ultimately dropped out of the pic

Portman will read the script and is expected to make a decision in the next week.

Filming is slated to kick off in January.

Portman is getting rave reviews after the festival debut over the weekend of "Black Swan"-- The ballet psychological thriller...and seems to be getting a bump from that
