Hard Knox

Director Michael Winterbottom ("The Killer Inside Me) and actor Colin Firth are re-teaming for a fictional drama based on the headline grabbing Murder of Meredith Kercher in 2007 says The Guardian (via The Playlist)

20-year-old American student Amanda Knox, was sentenced to 26 years in jail last December for murder and sexual violence against her British roommate Kercher in a house share in Perugia, Italy in 2007. Her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito and small-time drug dealer Rudy Guede were also convicted for being in on the assault and killing.

The trial caused much media debate, especially in the U.S., about the fairness of the Italian legal system.

Winterbottom is currently in Perugia, Italy researching the story

Firth will play a journalist covering the murder.

Winterbottom plans to shoot the film along the lines of his docudrama "A Mighty Heart" and will explore the media's reaction more than the case itself.

The duo made Summer in Genoa together.

If the film is as controversial as "Killer" ...
