In the book series, Alex Cross is a forensic psychologist who hunts down killers. Morgan Freeman played the role twice in 1997's Kiss the Girls and 2001's "Along Came a Spider".
Perry is best known for writing and directing his own films, this would mark his first role in a film that he didn't write outside of his cameo in J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek.
Rob Cohen (The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor) will direct the film. Patterson and Kerry Williamson wrote a draft of the script that will be polished by Marc Moss.
Idris Elba ("The Wire," "Rocknrolla") was originally slated to star in and David Twohy was originally gonna to direct.
