Franco Swaps Blood For God

James Franco willl not adapt Cormac McCarthy's 1985 semi-apocalyptic Western novel Blood Meridian and instead will take on McCarthy's Child of God.

The actor/filmmaker had been pursuing the Blood Meridian pic for a bit and even shot some test footage in order to convince producer Scott Rudin to let him call the shots--.that "turned out pretty well" according to the actor at a Q&A at TIFF (via We Got This Covered).  Actors Mark Pellegrino Scott Glenn, brother Dave Franco, and Luke Perry all appeared in that footage playing the various key roles.

However Franco says "we were gearing up to do the feature but that for various reasons is on hold".  McCarthy's third book "Child of God" follows Lester Ballard, a former family man now living in underground caves in Tennessee trying to exist outside society. He soon descends into increasingly darker behaviour with a big focus on necrophilia and pedophilia.

Franco is also expected to star in "Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse" a feature film version of the faux trailer short starring the elder Franco, Jay Baruchel and Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen told Coming Soon that the film is being shopped right now with Franco expected to "play himself".
