Gibson And Jewish Hero Biopic

The suits at Warner Bros. are backing controversial actor/director Mel Gibson plans to produce a biopic about Judas Maccabeus says THR

Maccabee, who, along with his father and four brothers, led the Jewish revolt against the tyrannical Greek-Syrian army in 167 BC, is considered an icon

And given Gibson's vile drunken rants about the Jews--the fact that he wants to make the film is not sitting well with some as Jewish leaders are slamming Gibson and the studio

When Joe Eszterhas (Basic Instinct) finishes writing the script, Gibson will decide if he wants to act in the film or direct it.

The Anti-Defamation League's Abraham Foxman said  "It would be a travesty to have his story told by one who has no respect and sensitivity for other people’s religious views" and that if Gibson makes the movie "we'll lose. He'll write his own history. I would prefer to leave the fate of Jewish history and Hollywood to Steven Spielberg. The Maccabees are our sacred history."

Rabbi Marvin Hier, told the trade, "Mel Gibson has shown nothing but antagonism and disrespect to Jews."

Mel's been pursuing the project for more than a decade, and is on the record in past interviews about that Therefore making it hard to argue that this is a move to make amends.

I thought Mel's mea culpa tour after the rant was disingenuous and have not really supported him since...Stay Tuned
