On hand to kick off this year's Tribeca Film Festival co-founder actor Robert De Niro, took time to answer a few questions (via Collider).
One came up about both Raging Bull II" and the long gestating Midnight Run Sequel. The former he has no involvement with, the latter though he's set to reprise his role.
The "Bull" follow-up will serve as a companion piece to Martin Scorsese's "Raging Bull" a biopic of boxer Jake Lamotta both as a prequel and sequel to the events depicted in the award winning film.
In regards to 'Bull', De Niro says "If somebody comes up with a great, great script, I'd read it and say, 'Yeah, it's great, I'll think about it, consider it, sure."
Chris Anderson, Sharon McGehee and Lamotta's own recently published book will serve as the basis for the project.
William Forsythe has been cast as Lamotta--taking over for De Niro
Casting is said to be underway ahead of filming in June with Martin Guigui calling action from Rustam Branaman and Martin Guigui adapted script.
"Run 2" follows up the original 1988 action-comedy that centered on a bounty hunter (De Niro making a cross-country journey attempting to bring back his latest catch, an embezzler (Charles Grodin).
While not a major hit, the film won critical favor and has scored a strong following in the two decades plus since its release. I have been a fan of the first film since its debut...
David Elliot and Paul Lovett ("Four Brothers," "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra") will re-write an earlier draft by Timothy Dowling ("Role Models") from which Brett Ratner directs. This time the action teams De Niro's character with a young sidekick.
De Niro elaborates a bit - "well, he's helping the son of Charles Grodin [and] he's gotten himself in trouble, and so that's where we are and the script is being re-worked again. But I hope to do it. It was a lot of fun to do."
De Niro will produce the sequel with Ratner and Jane Rosenthal.
