Tristan Wilds and Melonie Diaz have joined the cast of the real-life drama Fruitvale, says The Hollywood Reporter.
Ryan Coogler wrote and will direct the film about the shooting of Oscar Grant (Michael B. Jordan), a 22-year-old black man detained on New Year’s Day 2009 by the Bay Area Rapid Transit Police
Grant was shot in the back and killed, with the event captured by cell phone cameras. The subsequent trial and its verdict led to protests and riots.
Wilds will play Grant’s best friend while Diaz is the mother of his young child.
Oscar winner Octavia Spencer ("The Help") is set to play Grant's tough and protective mother.
Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang will produce the film.
