Damon Follows "The Monuments Men"

Matt Damon is in negotiations to join the period drama "The Monuments Men" says Deadline.

The story follows a group of men and women who chased down the stolen art of Europe during World War II.

George Clooney directs, will produce and will co-write the screenplay with Grant Heslov from the Robert M Edsel written novel. He also stars as George Stout, a U.S. Army officer and leading art conservationist, who repatriated tens of thousands of pieces of art from the Nazis.

Bill Murray, Cate Blanchett Daniel Craig, John Goodman, Hugh Bonneville Bob Balaban and
Jean Dujardin ("The Artist") co-star.

Much of the same crew for Ben Affleck's award season contender hopeful Argo which Clooney also produced, will serve in the same capacities here.

Production kicks off March 1st in Europe.
