Damien Chazelle Charts Armstrong Biopic "First Man"

The L.A. Times reports that "Whiplash" director and "Grand Piano" scribe Damien Chazelle will call action on the Neil Armstrong biopic "First Man".

Before becoming the first man to step on the moon in 1969, Armstrong flew 78 missions as a Navy pilot before the age of 23. He served as a test pilot in the 1950s before moving to NASA in the early 1960s and quickly rose through the ranks to lead the Apollo 11 mission to the moon.

Josh Singer ("The Fifth Estate") will write the adapted screenplay, based on author James R. Hansen's book. The author had full access to Armstrong's family and NASA when he wrote the book.

The film adaptation will Not be the next one for Chazelle who is slated to direct the dramatic comedy "La La Land" next.
