An adaptation of author Philip Roth's novel, the 1950s set story focuses on the son of a kosher butcher who struggles to adjust to life in an Ohio college. Added to that are solid doses of anti-Semitism and sexual repression.
Schamus and Anthony Bregman will produce the film.
Production is set to shoot in New York next summer.
