Based on the first game in the Naughty Dog series, the story charts the journey of Nathan Drake, supposed descendant of the explorer Francis Drake, as he seeks the lost treasure of El Dorado with the help of journalist Elena Fisher and mentor Victor "Sully" Sullivan.
Boal is a reported fan of the games and is expected to polish the script. The film is going for an Indiana Jones vibe.
Mark Wahlberg was attached to an earlier version of the project which fell apart. An offer recently went out to Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt who passed.
"Safe House" writer David Guggenheim penned the most recent draft of the script, a good enough one that the studio immediately hired him to write the action sequel Bad Boys 3. Thomas Dean Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer as well as "National Treasure" duo Marianne Wibberley and Cormac Wibberley have all worked on the script at some point in time.
The likes of David O. Russell and Neil Burger ("Limitless") were attached to direct the project at various points along the way here. Back in February we learned that Seth Gordon ("Horrible Bosses," "The King of Kong") is going to direct
Avi Arad, Ari Arad, Charles Roven and Alex Gartner remain attached to produce.
