Toy Story 4 On The Way

Variety reports that Disney/Pixar Animation Studios set a June 16th 2017 release date for a fourth film in the Toy Story franchise.

Mouse house chief Bob Iger made the announcement to Wall Street types as he discussed the company's fourth quarter and fiscal year results on Thursday.

Pixar honcho and original "Toy Story" director John Lasseter is set to return to the helm, while Tom Hanks and Tim Allen will reprise their roles as Woody and Buzz Lightyear.

"Celeste and Jesse Forever" scribes Rashida Jones and Will McCormack are writing the project.

Galyn Susman ("Toy Story of Terror," "Toy Story That Time Forgot") is a producer on the film that is being described as more of a love story than the previous outings.

In an official statement, Lasseter says:

"We love these characters so much; they are like family to us. We don't want to do anything with them unless it lives up to or surpasses what's gone before. 'Toy Story 3' ended Woody and Buzz's story with Andy so perfectly that for a long time, we never even talked about doing another 'Toy Story' movie. But when , , and I came up with this new idea, I just could not stop thinking about it. It was so exciting to me, I knew we had to make this movie - and I wanted to direct it myself."
