Set Sails
With the May release of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides coming up fast questioms about a 5th film abound.
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer told USA Today that he has a screenplay in the works for a fifth film, and the plan with the franchise is to continue with stand-alone adventures like the first film and 'Tides' rather than the continuity-heavy second and third film.
Asked about recent test screenings for 'Tides', Bruckheimer says "The audience told us what they loved about it is that it was fresh, it was new, it was a whole new story. So that will carry over into the next one, too, to give it something fresh and different. As long as the audience embraces this one, we’ll certainly try to make another one. It’s really up to Johnny. He loves the character."
Johnny Depp has expressed interest in continuing the character of Sparrow after 'Tides' opens on May 20, 2011.
