Ben Directs Himself In Argo
Ben Affleck has cast himself in his Iran hostage crisis thriller "Argo" according to Variety.
Based on Joshuah Bearman's 2007 Wired magazine article, the wry political thriller would be centered on what happened during the occupation of the American embassy by Iranians in 1979, when a rescue effort was mounted by the CIA and the Canadian government to extract six U.S. diplomats.
The CIA used a disguise expert and concocted a scenario that involved the six being a Hollywood crew scouting a sci-fi movie titled "Argo:. Using those disguises, and with the help of artwork by legendary comics creator Jack Kirby, they were able to flee the country.
Affleck will play Tony Mendez the CIA officer charged with the ops of the mission.
Alan Arkin and John Goodman also star.
Chris Terrio wrote the screenplay
David Klawans, George Clooney and Grant Heslov will produce the pic
