Hugh Jackman is in talks to star in Tom Hooper's (The King's Speech) adaptation of "Les Misérables" says THR
The pic would take the world famous musical--based on Victor Hugo's book--and make it sing once agaim.
Jackman's seemingly up for the role of Jean Valjean, an escaped convict who attempts to make a new life for himself but is constantly hunted by obsessed lawman Javert. The story also follows the lives of an array of other unfortunates souls in early 19th-century France, including prostitutes, student revolutionaries and factory workers.
The script for this adaptation was penned by William Nicholson, Cameron Mackintosh will produce.
Paul Bettany a candidate for the part of Javert who is the nemesis of Valjean and apparently read for the role and sang some songs. The hope is to begin production in Europe sometime before year's end
Les Miserables has previously been adapted for a number of films including a 1998 version starring Liam Neeson, Geoffrey Rush and Uma Thurman.
