Joshua Close and Fiona Dourif have signed on to join Paul Thomas Anderson's Scientology veiled religious drama "The Master" says Variety.
The story centers on the relationship between The Master (Philip Seymour Hoffman), a charismatic intellectual who hatches a faith-based organization that begins to catch on in America in 1952, and the 20-something alcoholic drifter (Joaquin Phoenix) who becomes his right-hand man. As the faith begins to gain a fervent following, the drifter finds himself questioning the belief system he has embraced, and his mentor.
Close will play one of The Master's top followers, Dourif's role in the pic is not known
Laura Dern, Jesse Plemons, and David Warshofsky also star
Anderson directs from his own original screenplay and shooting is currently underway in Sacramento.
PTA, JoAnne Sellar, Megan Ellison, and Daniel Lupi are producing.
