The new James Bond film "Skyfall" is making history...
The 23rd pic in the franchise will be released in IMAX theaters both domestically and internationally - the first time a Bond movie has used the large format--according to a joint Press Release from Eon Productions, Sony Pictures and MGM.
The film will follow the usual worldwide release pattern for Bond-opening in much of Europe by late October, the rest of the world in the first week of November, and the U.S. in the second week of November.
Like with "Quantum of Solace" though, there are three notable exceptions - Japan, South Africa, and Australia where the film will bow some 3-4 weeks later at the end of November.
The announcement comes a day after the release of a video blog post by director Sam Mendes which offers viewers a brief look behind the scenes.
In the film Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.
Daniel Craig Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem, Naomie Harris, Judi Dench, Simon Russell Beale, Rhys Ifans, Helen McCrory Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear also star.
Mendes directs from a script by Patrick Marber John Logan Neal Purvis and Robert Wade
Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli are producing the film.
The sequel arrives in theaters on November 9, 2012 in the US.
