"Pain" Gains Mackie

Anthony Mackie is in talks to join the cast of director Michael Bay's long-gestating--low-budget dark comedy Pain and Gain says Variety.

Based on a true story, the action follows a group of bodybuilders (led by Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson) who engaged in a campaign of kidnapping, extortion and murder in Florida. The not so bright group kidnapped Miami businessman Marc Schiller, tortured him and left him for dead. He survived and to get even he hired hired a private investigator (Ed Harris) to track them down.

Mackie would play Adrian Doorbal, "a big-hearted bodybuilder who works out with Wahlberg's character, Daniel Lugo. Doorbal has little to show for his hard work, leading him to get involved with Lugo's scheme."

Rob Corddry and John Turturro also star.

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely ("Captain America: The First Avenger") wrote the script.

Bay Donald De Line and Ian Bryce will produce.

Productiom is slated to begin in the Spring.
