The Avengers: An Extra Scene?

There's been a lot of hullabaloo made following the star powered premiere of writer/director Joss Whedon's The Avengers last Wednesday and it's not really been about the strong response to the superhero team up pic. Yes early tracking data suggests the film may be the biggest opening weekend for a Marvel movie to date ("Iron Man 2" currently holds the record with $128 million).

It was the big press conference (full transcript) for the movie held the next day that got everyone in a tizzy.

The event wrapped with star Robert Downey Jr.'s saying "We are shooting one more scene. Tonight. Not kidding"--with no-one able to ask him a follow-up question.

Whedon held a second press conference immediately after and was denying it, Marvel suit Kevin Feige later nixed the claim as well.

For the next few hours folks debated whether RDJ was being serious or not...

Actor Mark Ruffalo went on the record rather definitively, telling The Playlist that "We’re shooting a scene tonight. I’m not sure exactly where it’s gonna go. All I know is that someone came in with the costume and said, 'Here’s some wardrobe. We don’t know where you’re going to be or what you’re doing'… So I’m like, 'All right, when are we doing that?' Today after we’re done."

This is most assured a post-credits scene referring to another Marvel film, it will likely make its debut on public prints of the film which start showing worldwide from April 25th and might explain why the film remains without a rating.

Chris Evans Chris Hemsworth Scarlett Johansson Samuel L. Jackson Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg, Cobie Smulders, Stellan Skarsgård, and Amanda Righetti star in the May 4, 2012 superhero team up flick.
