SDCC '12: MOS Flies In!!

Clearly one of the best panels from Saturday's Comic-Con 2012 presentations was for Zack Snyder's big budget reboot Superman: Man of Steel. Snyder and star Henry Cavill showed off  the new trailer, which debuts attached to prints of Christopher Nolan's bat-capper "The Dark Knight Rises" on Friday...

The following footage description comes via IGN

The trailer began with a series of shots: grass, an overturned toy wagon, a farmhouse. We see Clark with a bag over his shoulder walking towards the wilderness There's dialogue from Cavill's Clark Kent, Russell Crowe's Jor-El, and Kevin Costner's Pa Kent that recall the fear of human beings to what they don't understand. We see how the world would really react to a superhuman alien revealing himself to the world. There's a quick series of shots of Jor-El, Amy Adams' Lois Lane kissing Superman, and Michael Shannon's General Zod.

We see young Clark playing in his backyard with a red towel around his neck as a cape and later saving classmates in a school bus accident. We also see him finding the Kryptonian space ship in his parents' barn. We see Clark "meeting" Jor-El in the Fortress of Solitude, and even a glimpse of The Daily Planet as Clark gets into an elevator and puts on his glasses. And, obviously, some cool aerial stuff of Superman in battle, soaring through the sky and walking across the clouds like, well, Jesus across water. The trailer ends with Clark saying something along the lines of "My father always said people would reject me if they found out who I really was. We find out now if they will."

Cavill talked about his comics inspiration. Snyder was asked if he thought that with Man of Steel if this would lead to a JLA or Batman vs. Superman movie and he replied that once Superman, which he called DC's crown jewel, gets going "anything is possible."

Reaction to Cavill when he showed up on stage was met with various declarations of love from the audience, everyone from swooning women complimenting him during the Q&A to a random guy in the audience declaring "You're Hot". Moderator Chris Hardwick even came down from the stage to comfort one fan overwhelmed by the footage...

MOS also stars Amy Adams Michael Shannon Kevin Costner Diane Lane Antje Traue Christopher Meloni Harry Lennix Laurence Fishburne Russell Crowe and Ayelet Zurer. Bradley Cooper was said to be in talks to make a cameo appearance as Lex Luthor as a set-up for sequels. But that's not been confirmed. Emmy-winning actor Richard Schiff will play Dr. Hamilton. Cooper Timberline and Dylan Sprayberry both play young Clark Kent at various ages in the film. Jadin Gould is a young Lana Lang.

David S. Goyer wrote the first screenplay draft based on a story he concocted with Christopher. His bro Jonah Nolan taking a crack at the task as well Kurt Johnstad did rewrites

Charles Roven, Emma Thomas Deborah Snyder, and Nolan will be producers on the film.

MOS flies into theaters June 14th 2013.
